L. Judson Todhunter joined Defrees & Fiske as a member in 1998 and concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate and commercial law. Mr. Todhunter also has extensive experience in the areas of insolvency and financial restructurings.
Mr. Todhunter represents and counsels numerous businesses and professionals concerning various legal issues beginning with the initial formation of the appropriate business entity through the profitable operation of their businesses thereafter. Mr. Todhunter's clients include established manufacturing, wholesale, retail, and distribution businesses.
During the past 24 years, Mr. Todhunter has also had extensive experience in insolvency, commercial law, and financial restructurings. He regularly represents financial institutions, corporations, creditors' committees, trustees, debtors, and individual creditors, in both transactions and litigation. Litigation often includes representing creditors and debtors in commercial proceedings in the United States Bankruptcy Courts.
Mr. Todhunter is a frequent lecturer at various seminars sponsored by the American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Du Page County Bar Association and National Business Institute. His article, "Corporate Liquidations and Alternatives," was published by the Du Page County Bar Association Brief in 1994. He also has been an instructor on bankruptcy law at Malinkrodt College (now Loyola University) in Chicago, Illinois.
Jud is an avid sailor on Lake Michigan. He has raced in 23 Chicago-to-Mackinac Island Races. Jud also is an aspiring, though not necessarily successful, golfer. Jud is the Treasurer of the Lyons Township Soccer Club and a member of the LTSC Board of Directors.
Mr. Todhunter is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Law Committee), the Chicago Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is a graduate of the John Marshall Law School (J.D. 1976) and the University of Colorado (B.A. 1973).
